CHENNAI: A meeting of the governing council and executive council of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) will be held on Saturday under the chairmanship of party founder-chief Kamal Haasan.

The meeting follows the Election Commission of India (ECI) issuing a notification allotting the party the torchlight symbol for the upcoming Assembly elections, the same symbol it had used earlier.

According to a statement issued by general secretary A Arunachalam, the meeting will take place at 10 am at the party headquarters.

The discussions are expected to focus on organisational preparedness and the party’s roadmap for the upcoming Assembly elections.

After failing to win any seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and 2021 Assembly elections, Kamal decided to support the DMK-led alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and his party did not contest any seats. In return, the DMK offered him a Rajya Sabha seat.
