NIB arrests five for possessing 105 kg ganja

The sleuths of Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) CID, Chennai arrested three persons on the charges of smuggling 105 kg ganja from Visakhapatnam and two peddlers who purchased the contraband from them in the city. A truck used for smuggling and a two-wheeler were also seized from them.

Among the accused, Prince Anthony and Joshua own lorries and are into transporting goods. When the duo along with Karthik recently went to Andhra Pradesh to deliver essential commodities, they purchased over 100 kilograms of ganja.

Since Prince has been under NIB radar, a team of NIB sleuths intercepted his vehicle near Madhavaram and seized the contraband.

Two others, Tamilarasan and Vasanthakuumar, purchased the contraband from them.

Meanwhile, city police managed to seize 174.5 kg ganja in the last 12 days and have arrested 19 persons in an operation to curb ganja being smuggled into the city.

In the latest seizure, Washermenpet police arrested a trio in possession of 94 kg ganja.

“They created a closed space in the truck to smuggle ganja and to escape during vehicle checks,” said an official.
