Chennai: The deceased, S Divya of Tiruvalluvar Nagar, was a Class 10 student at a private school. Police said that the teachers had allegedly complained to her parents about her poor performance in her studies, for which she was scolded at home.

While the girl went missing on Saturday, Tiruvanmiyur police registered a case based on her parents’ complaint. The next day, Divya reportedly informed her friend that she was in Tiruchy. The police rushed to Tiruchy to rescue her, but she could not be traced.

However, the police received a phone call from Alanganallur police station in Madurai that Divya was found hanging in an under-construction building on Keezhapanangudi road.

A suicide note was retrieved from her. It reportedly said that she resorted to the extreme step since her parents were strict and did not buy her the things she wanted.

The girl’s body was sent for post-mortem at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. Alanganallur police have registered a case and investigation is on.
