Migrant worker's body found in sack in Chennai; probe reveals wife, child also murdered

Police sources said that searches are underway at the Perungudi dumpyard and along Cooum river banks based on the statements from the suspects.

CHENNAI: Probe into the murder of a migrant worker whose body was found in a gunny bag in Indira Nagar 1st Avenue, Adyar on Monday morning has revealed that the assailants had murdered the migrant worker's wife and three year old child too and disposed their bodies.

Police sources said that searches are underway at the Perungudi dumpyard and along Cooum river banks based on the statements from the suspects.

On Monday (Jan 26) morning, Residents noticed the blood-stained sack and got suspicious and alerted the police after which a team from Adyar police station rushed to the scene and secured the sack. Upon unwrapping the sack, police found the body of a man with several injuries suggesting that he was murdered.

Later, police identified the victim as Gaurav Kumar of Bihar who had come to the city to work as security guard. According to police sources, CCTV footage from the neighbourhood shows two men on a motorcycle carrying the sack, purportedly with Gaurav Kumar's body, around midnight on Sunday.

Further investigations are underway to find the motive behind the murders.
