Marine engineer, friend robbed at Neelankarai

A marine engineer and his friend were robbed by three men when they were on Neelankarai beach late on Wednesday.

The gang snatched one phone and cash from them. The police have managed to nab one of the suspects and are looking for the others.

The victims, 26-year-old Pradeep, a resident of Tiruvanmiyur and his friend Sundar had gone to the beach at night after watching a movie. The two on a bike when they were accosted by the alleged robbers.


They threatened the duo at knife point and snatched a mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash before fleeing. Pradeep and Sundar then approached the Neelankarai police station and filed a complaint.


A police team identified one of the suspects as Kumar, a 30-year-old resident of MGR Nagar near Akkarai. He is an autorickshaw driver and he often visits the beach drunk withtwo of his friends who are juveniles.


Sources in the police said that on Wednesday night Kumar and his friends visited the beach and robbed Pradeep and Sundar. Police have launched a hunt for Kumar’s accomplices. Kumar has been arrested and remanded in Puzhal prison.
