Manorama’s son pops sleeping pills

Actress Manorama’s son Boopathy, also an actor and singer, was admitted to a private hospital on Wednesday after he took an overdose of sleeping pills the previous night since he was not getting liquor since lockdown.

Boopathy, who lives with his wife and son, also a doctor, at Neelakanda Mehta Nagar, T Nagar, was found lying unconscious in his room and his son rushed him to a private hospital nearby.

Doctors treating him said Boopathy took an overdose of sleeping pills. On information, Mambalam police visited the hospital and conducted inquiries.

Boopathy’s son told police that the 64-year-old man used to consume liquor along with sleeping pills every night, and has been struggling to get sleep without alcohol since lockdown.

On Tuesday night, Boopathy popped in more pills than the prescribed dose and became unconscious. However, he is said to be stable at the hospital and is under the supervision of the doctors.

While the word spread that he attempted suicide dejected over unavailability of liquor, police clarified that it was not a suicide bid. Boopathy is the only son of actress Manorama, who passed away in 2015.
