Man held for threatening jewellery maker with fake pistol in Pattabiram

The Pattabiram police have arrested a man for threatening a jewellery maker with a fake pistol. A search has been launched to nab his accomplice.

The dummy pistol and two kg silver bars were seized from the accused, identified as Suresh of Tiruchy, while the other man was identified as Badshah of Red Hills.


The incident happened on Friday night when the victim, Karthik (34) of Tiruvarur, was on his way to his in-law’s house in Pattabiram. “After buying two kg gold at Parry’s Corner, he had boarded the suburban train at the Moore Market Complex and got down at Hindu College station. Two men intercepted him claiming to be police personnel, and threatened him by pointing a gun. They asked him to part with his valuables. When Karthik refused, they attacked him,” said the police.


Hearing his cries, auto drivers waiting outside the station rescued Karthik andsecured one of them.


He was handed over to Pattabiram police. Investigation revealed the duo became friends in the prison and kept a watch on Karthik to rob him after finding that he was carrying valuables. The dummy pistol was seized from Suresh, while a hunt is on for Badshah.
