The accused, Nithyanandam and his friends Poovarasan (19) and Dilip (23) of Tiruvannamalai, were working in a private firm in Oragadam. The police said that the deceased, Prathap (20), was also their friend and were sharing the same room. Six months ago, Nithyanandam was arrested by the police in a mobile phone snatching case and was in prison. During those times, Prathap had helped Nithyanandam’s wife Sathya to apply for bail and both of them were in a relationship.

When Nithyanandam came out from the prison three months ago, he came to know about his wife’s relationship and invited Prathap for a drink on a farmland in Oragadam and murdered him with the help of Poovarasan and Dilip. The police said that the group tied a huge stone to the body and dumped it in a well by tying a huge stone to it. Last week, Prathap’s parents filed a complaint with Kancheepuram SP Sunmugapriya that their son has been missing since June. On suspicion, the police questioned his roommates and they confessed to the murder. The police, on Monday, retrieved the decomposed body from the well and sent it for post-mortem examination. All of them were arrested and were remanded in judicial custody.
