Magistrate begins inquiry into Korattur encounter

A day after history-sheeter Manikandan was shot dead in the city in an encounter by the Villupuram police, Magistrate Dhananchezhiyan inspected the apartment complex in Anna Nagar West Extension where the incident happened and examined the corpse of the deceased at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

The police said that the magistrate talked to the doctors who performed post mortem examination and Manikandan’s family at the hospital. Later, he visited ‘Golden Oaks’ apartment at B sector in Anna Nagar West Extn, which falls under the Korattur police limit. The police officers at the Korattur police station were questioned if they knew anything about the arrival of the Villupuram police.


Meanwhile, residents said that they saw many police personnel in the locality on Tuesday late evening, but came to know that a history-sheeter had been shot dead only through the media.


Manikandan, who is said to have eight murder cases pending against him, was married to Anandhi, a doctor by profession, and the couple has two children. Meanwhile, State Human Rights Commission has reportedly issued a notice to the State government to submit a detailed report on the encounter death.
