The students who gathered outside their campus on Monday morning displayed placards about their demands. Students alleged that the university accommodated boys in a hostel, which was about four kilometres away from their campus of Perungudi and they had to walk long distance to take a bus from their campus to the hostel.

“Girls have hostel inside the campus and inspite of demands for such a facility for boys, we are yet to get it,” one of the student who stays in the hostel said. The students also complained that there were only few permanent faculties in few departments in the university and some guest faculty had been teaching these students. “We want permanent faculty to teach us all subjects,” another student said. The protesting stu dents also demanded that the University administration should provide proper wireless internet (Wi-fi) facility in the college premises.

“We have been paying money for WiFi internet facility in our campus, which most of the time, do not work. This is also another demand which we have been asking the authorities to solve it at the earliest but nothing happened till now,” the students said.

A University official said that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had allocated Rs 60 crore for the new campus at Perungudi, which was opened during February this year. “State Government has taken steps for allocation of additional lands near this campus. Once we take possession of that land, we will make all arrangements for constructing the boys hostel inside the campus at the earliest,” the official said.
