CHENNAI: A Kolkata-Chennai IndiGo flight made a priority landing at the Chennai airport on Saturday morning after a male passenger suffered severe chest pain mid-air.

The flight, carrying 170 passengers, was originally scheduled to land at 7.25 am. However, during the journey, the passenger suddenly complained of intense chest pain, prompting the cabin crew to alert the captain.

The pilot immediately contacted Chennai Air Traffic Control (ATC) to report the medical emergency and requested an early landing. Acting swiftly, the Chennai ATC granted clearance for a priority landing. Arrangements were made on the ground, and the aircraft touched down safely at 6.50 am – around 35 minutes ahead of schedule.

A medical team boarded the flight upon landing and administered first aid to the passenger, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance stationed near the runway.

Airport sources confirmed that the passenger is undergoing treatment. Fellow passengers lauded the crew’s prompt response, crediting the early landing for potentially saving a life.
