IIT-M student clubs to foster creativity

To foster creativity among students, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, has started some new clubs for students, including Cooking and Baking Clubs and Techno-Entertainment Club.

The institute has also launched YourDOST, an online emotional wellness platform, which aims to increase awareness regarding mental wellness and break the prevalent social stigma attached to seeking psychological help. 

Encouraging the new batch of students to take up these activities for better physical and mental health, Prof. M S Sivakumar, Dean (Students) at the institute said that at IIT Madras, many exceptional students seek physical education and recreation with the same passion and attitude as they do in academics to achieve their complete potential.

An institute press release on Saturday said that from this academic year, the institute will offer Leisure Time Activity Programme courses in short weekend/extended weekend workshop modes. L-TAP aims to enrich personality of the students by giving opportunities to identify, self-assess and learn various skills during their leisure time. 

This academic year will see many students who have not been part of the institute team and hostel team, besides eager to compete in simple tournaments will get an opportunity to participate in the Amateurs tournament. This will be held as an inter-hostel competition to encourage many more students to take to sports. 

With an objective to help persons with disabilities (PwD) students the institute has allocated 10 rooms in Bhadra and Tunga, the two new hostels.
