CHENNAI: Hours after her son killed himself allegedly after his father chided him over his relationship, a woman killed herself too at her house in Vyasarpadi on Monday.

The deceased were identified as R Sushil (21) and his mother, R Ilavarasi (50). Police said that Sushil, who was a B.Com graduate ran a dance class in B V colony in Vyasarpadi.

The family lived in a rented house at Karimedu in Vyasarpadi. Sushil’s father, Raghunathan is a graphic designer and his mother ran a fancy store, police said.

On Monday, the father and son had an argument over Sushil’s relationship after which the 21-year-old took the extreme step. Police investigations revealed that the father told Sushil to stabilise himself first and marry the girl he was in a relationship with after he turns 27-year-old.

This had led to frequent quarrel between the two and on Monday afternoon, when the issue came up, Raghunathan was firm in his stance after which Sushil locked himself in the room.

When the parents knocked on his door after few minutes, there was no response. Alarmed, they broke open the door to find Sushil lying unconscious. With neighbours’ help, Sushil was moved to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

At the hospital, Ilavarasi swooned on hearing the news after which she was given first aid there. Without informing anyone, Ilavarasi left the hospital and went home. Sending her elder sister, who was at home on an errand, Ilavarasi too killed herself.

MKB Nagar police registered a case.
