CHENNAI: The Zam Bazaar police arrested an Andhra native for drugging and robbing a homemaker of her gold chain.

Aarnipalli Ravanamma (34) is a resident of Triplicane, hailing from Andhra Pradesh.

On January 7, she visited Sujatha to stitch her clothes. She offered Sujatha drug-laced sweets, prompting her to fall unconscious.

Once Sujatha woke up, she found her 6-sovereign chain missing and filed a complaint with the Zam Bazaar police.

After investigations, Ravanamma was arrested, and it came to light that she was involved in another theft in Triplicane in December.

The police recovered 19.5 sovereigns of chains from Ravanamma. Police said she lived in Chennai for the past decade and took up odd jobs.

She was produced before a magistrate court on Friday and remanded in judicial custody.
