CHENNAI: As the national capital sank into tragedy following the explosion of a car near the Red Fort on Monday evening, security has been stepped up across Chennai, with police forces remaining on high alert.

The explosion triggered fires that swallowed many cars near the Red Fort metro station gate 1, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens. Following the incident, security at state capitals, especially Mumbai, and Delhi's neighbours, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, was amplified.

As a precautionary measure, law enforcement personnel have launched a massive city-wide surveillance in Chennai and a vehicle check operation. The intensified vigil is focused on key locations and sensitive installations throughout the metropolitan area.

Police officers and personnel have been actively engaged in inspecting vehicles and screening individuals at numerous checkpoints. The operation aims to identify any suspicious persons or objects to prevent any potential security threats.
