Heavy wind and rain in the offing for city

Several parts of the city received rains late on Tuesday evening, which is expected to strengthen in the next 48 hours. The weathermen have also issued warning about heavy rainfall in isolated places over Ghat areas, including Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul and The Nilgiris.

In his social media post on Tuesday night, popular weather blogger Pradeep John said the entire city is expected to receive rain, brought in high winds. Such is the speed of the wind that it might even lead to a lesser quantum of rain, he said. Besides Chennai and Tiruvallur belt, high winds are also expected in Kanniyakumari, he said.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, heavy rainfall is also expected in Perambalur, Tiruchy, Ariyalur, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Kanniyakumari on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, it rained in many parts of the city and its suburbs, including Adyar, Guindy, Meenambakkam, Pallavaram and Tambaram, recording an average of 18 mm. During the day, the maximum temperatures remained one degrees Celsius below normal at weather stations in Nungambakkam (33.5) and Meenambakkam (33.2). The minimum temperature at Nungambakkam was 25.4 degrees Celsius, while it was more than two degrees Celsius below normal at Meenambakkam (23.1).

Other districts like Coimbatore, Salem, The Nilgiris, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli, too, received rain on Tuesday.

Weathermen predicted that sky condition in the city is likely to be generally cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas during evening or night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
