German student sent back after participating in agitation

A German student who was in IIT-Madras as part of a student exchange programme was asked to return to his country by immigrant officials after photos of him participating in protests against CAA emerged on social media.

Students of Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle in IIT-Madras confirmed to DT Next that Jakob Lidenthal, the German national, boarded a flight on Monday night and added that they came to know about the incident only after he left the campus. 

Students said that he came here for a one-year MS programme in the Physics department and had six more months to complete the programme. Jakob Lidenthal actively participated in the protests against CAA inside the IIT-Madras campus as well as the protest organised at Valluvar Kottam.
