The incident happened when the victim, Vijayasekar (40) of Ayanavaram, was on his way to Ayanavaram bus depot to board a bus to Koyambedu where he runs the shop. He was intercepted on KH Road junction around 3 am by the bike-borne trio.

They snatched his phone and demanded money. When Vijayasekar said he did not have cash, they cut his cheek with a knife, snatched his shop’s keys and cash before fleeing. Hearing his cries for help, passers-by rushed him to Kilpauk MCH. Based on his complaint, Ayanavaram police launched a hunt with the help of CCTV footage.

Vijayasekar said the trio had covered faces with monkey caps and was carrying an LED TV. Police suspect they might have burgled the TV.
