While the gang escaped with his mobile phone, Rs 6,000 in cash and his silver jewellery, passers-by noticed him lying in a pool of blood in the wee hours of Thursday and admitted him to Government Stanley Hospital.

The victim, Raj (27) of Royapuram, who was taking rest in his car near Tiruvallur was approached by a bike-borne duo who wanted to go to Ambattur.

While one of them boarded the car, the other person followed them on the bike up to Puzhal. After that, he too got into the car leaving the bike there.

When they were returning to Tiruvallur, the duo asked Raj to stop the car at Ellaiamman temple forest area near Red Hills to attend to nature’s call.

After they got down, four more men joined them and attacked Raj with weapons and hurled chilli powder on his face.

On information, the Red Hills police registered a case based on the statement by Raj and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
