The accused, S Venkatraman of Kelambakkam, was arrested at Kohlapur in Maharashtra and brought to Chennai. Police said that Venkatraman’s modus operandi was to buy a huge sum from gullible investors on the promise of getting them land for real estate business.

While his four aides - Muthu Narayanana, Kamalesh Seth, Vijayakumar and Gopinath – were already arrested, Venkatraman remained elusive as he owned an helicopter. Since, he used a satellite phone, it proved difficult to trace him.
