Four arrested for pledging imitation jewellery

CHENNAI: Avadi city police on Sunday arrested four persons for pledging imitation jewellery with a pawn broker in Pattabiram.

Police had received a complaint from a jewellery owner, Alaudeen, who runs jewellery and pawn broker shop in south bazaar area in Pattabiram.

On September 9 (Friday), Perumal, a local along with three others had come to Alaudeen’s shop.

“The men were in a hurry and told the jeweller that they need money for a child’s operation and told that they wanted to pledge a gold chain, ” police quoted Alaudeen’s complaint.

Claiming that the chain was 24 grams, the men took Rs 70,000 from the jeweller and left the place. The next day, when a jewel appraiser checked the chain, he found that except for the hook, the rest part of the chain were all imitation and not gold.

Based on the jeweller’s complaint, Pattabiram police registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects.

On Sunday, police arrested four persons- Perumal (49) of Arakkonam, Ramesh (50) of Tiruttani, Prakash (26) of Sholingur and his friend, Amresh (33). Police recovered Rs 68,000 from them.

The four of them were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
