LPG cylinder godown in Walajabad catches fire, 12 injured

A private gas agency is situated in Devariyampakkam in Walajabad in the Kancheepuram district and LPG cylinders for commercial usage would be supplied from the godown to the factories in the locality.

CHENNAI: As many as 12 people were injured after a fire broke out in a LPG cylinder godown in Walajabad on Wednesday night.

A private gas agency is situated in Devariyampakkam, Walajabad in Kancheepuram district that holds LPG cylinders for commercial usage and supplies to the factories in the locality, caught fire at 7 pm on Wednesday night soon after which the cylinders started exploding.

On the impact, the godown owner Jeevanandam, and the neighbours Pooja, Sathya, Nivetha, Gokul and a few lorry drivers suffered severe burn injuries.

The fire and rescue team who rushed to the spot doused the fire and admitted the injured to the Chengalpattu GH.

The district collector M Aarthi, and Superintendent of Police M Sudhakar visited the spot and held inquiries.

Since there was heavy leakage of gas, the power supply had been turned off completely in the locality and the villagers have been asked to move to a safer place.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the reason behind the fire break out.
