Ex-cop dies day after retirement

A senior official died of heart attack the day after he retired from service as the commandant of a special police battalion, in the city on Saturday.

The deceased, A Subramanian of Kollumedu near Avadi, had joined the State police force as a sub-inspector in 1987, said officials.

Two years ago, he was promoted as Superintendent and was posted as commandant of Tamil Nadu Special Police II Battalion in Avadi. He retired from the services on April 30. On May 1, he suddenly developed a chest pain.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but the doctors there declared him brought dead. Officials said he died of cardiac arrest. Subramanian is survived by his wife Selvi, daughters Chandini and Niranjani. The Avadi Tank Factory police have registered a case about Subramanian’s death.
