Emalias appointed public prosecutor

In a surprise move, two law officers-Public Prosecutor Rajarathinam and Government Pleader MK Subramanian- resigned on Thursday. Though both the members had resigned citing personal reasons, talks are agog in the High Court circle that the resignations had reportedly come forth due to political compulsions.

While in the Public Prosecutor’s place C Emalias took over as PP-in-charge in the presence of Advocate General Vijay Narayan in the Law officers’ chambers, TN Rajagopalan took over as GP-in-Charge in place of Subramanian.

It is said that more changes are on the cards as a few additional advocate generals may also quit owing to the change in the ruling party’s dispensation especially with a power struggle emerging between the two factions working within the AIADMK in terms of Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami supporters and O Panneerselvam loyalists.

It is said that both Rajarathinam and Subramanian were appointed when AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister. Now, with the change in dispensation, the factions are keen to appoint law officers who are loyal to them.

It may be noted that Senior advocate Vijay Narayan was appointed Tamil Nadu’s Advocate General on August 30 following the resignation of R Muthukumaraswamy who resigned, citing personal reasons.
