Chennai city police have deployed 18,000 uniformed personnel including the Central Armed Forces to provide security to the counting centres in the city. These personnel will ensure a three-tier security to the three vote counting centres in the heart of the city and three others located in the outskirts.

The Central Armed Forces will take care of the internal ring of security by safeguarding the place where the EVMs are kept. The state armed forces will take care of the second tier and will safeguard the buildings where the counting will take place and the outer ring security would be handled by the local police.

City police sources told DT Next that all the security arrangements are in place and adequate lighting arrangements, CCTV cameras and stand by generators have been provided at the counting centres.

“A senior officer in the rank of deputy commissioner of police will be the overall in-charge of the security arrangements at each counting centre. Men and officers have been deployed in three shifts to ensure foolproof security in all the counting centres,” City Commissioner of Police, Ashuthosh Shukla said.

Additional forces have also been deployed in sensitive areas to take care of any untoward incidents.
