The Greater Chennai Corporation has invited bids from contractors to construct a stainless foot over bridge connecting Nungambakkam railway station. As per the tender documents, the FOB will be constructed at a cost of Rs five crore. According to a Chennai Corporation official, the new foot overbridge would connect Nungambakkam railway station and the other side of Nelson Manickam Road. “The FOB will be designed in a way to pass over the Nungambakkam subway. Passengers alighting at the railway station can take the FOB without coming out,” he added. The FOB is expected to ease the traffic snarls during peak hours caused by jaywalking pedestrians. Meanwhile, the civic body had already started the tendering process to construct a foot over bridge (skywalk) in T Nagar to connect Mambalam railway station and T Nagar bus terminus. The project is proposed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of around Rs 30 Crore.”As of now, we are maintaining five foot over bridges connecting railway stations and major roads in the city and the Nungambakkam foot over bridge will be our sixth,” the official said.
