Officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation, assisted by a posse of policemen, on Monday brought down a temple constructed on a pavement along Anna Main Road at KK Nagar.

Ahead of the sensitive drive, sources said Corporation Commissioner G Prakash conducted a high-level meeting at the Ripon Building with senior civic officials directing them to demolish all the unauthorised religious structures that are constructed on the pavements and lands of the civic body.

The civic officials have already identified such encroachments and they will be razed down in a phased manner. Corporation sources said that 30 such religious structures have been identified.
