Commercial sex racket crackdown: Man arrested by anti-vice squad

Last month, police had arrested two of his accomplices- K Mahendran (34 of Kodaikanal and K Manimaran (24) of Pammal-for forcing gullible young women into prostitution. Four women were rescued from an apartment complex in Madipakkam.

CHENNAI: The anti-vice squad of Chennai police on Saturday arrested an absconding accused, part of a commercial sex work racket.

The arrested person was identified as K Varadarajan (52) of Kuyil Thottam, Mylapore. Police said that he took many names depending on the neighbourhood he operated in and targeted young women who came to the city in search of opportunities in the film and television industry.

Last month, police had arrested two of his accomplices- K Mahendran (34 of Kodaikanal and K Manimaran (24) of Pammal-for forcing gullible young women into prostitution. Four women were rescued from an apartment complex in Madipakkam.

Police had received a tip off about prostitution in an apartment in Ram Nagar neighbourhood in Madipakkam after which the apartment was raided.

Varadarajan was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
