Class 10 Chennai boy electrocuted by high-tension wire near tuition centre

Police said Ganesan used to attend tuition classes at a private coaching centre near the Perumbakkam bus stand. Around 7 pm on Thursday, he had gone to the tuition centre as usual.

CHENNAI: A Class 10 student of a private school was electrocuted while on his way to a tuition centre near Perumbakkam on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Ganesan (14), son of Suresh, a resident of Jaya Nagar in Perumbakkam.

Police said Ganesan used to attend tuition classes at a private coaching centre near the Perumbakkam bus stand. Around 7 pm on Thursday, he had gone to the tuition centre as usual.

The tuition centre was functioning on the first floor of the building. While climbing the staircase to reach the class, Ganesan accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage overhead electric wire running close to the staircase.

On impact, he was thrown away due to the electric shock. Other students who witnessed the incident raised an alarm, following which residents alerted the police. Soon, the Perumbakkam police rushed to the spot and found the student dead. The body was later sent to the Tambaram Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Police have registered a case, and further investigation is on. The police are investigating how a high-voltage electricity line was located within touching distance of the staircase, which is used by the public and students every day.
