Chennai: Woman kills self in lover's house after marriage dispute

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old woman, a college student allegedly died by suicide at her boyfriend's residence in Choolaimedu on Saturday.

The preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the woman had an argument with her boyfriend regarding their marriage. The probe revealed that while the boyfriend was keen on an immediate court marriage, the deceased woman wanted to complete her studies before getting married.

The preliminary inquiries found that the couple had been in a relationship for nearly nine years. After an argument on Saturday, she went into a room and locked herself inside. When she did not come out for several minutes, the door was forced open and she was found collapsed.

The body was later sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. The Choolaimedu police have registered a case and are investigating further.
