The film brings to light the hardship faced by the people of Tamil Nadu due to incessant power cuts that wreaked havoc on the state in the past.

Arun Chidambaram told media agencies “We never expected this. It’s a great recognition. It’s purely by merit”. The film will have its world premiere at the 49th World Fest Houston International Film Festival in April. Arun Chidambaram will be presented the award during the film’s premiere. Sadly, movie goers in Tamil Nadu must wait until after the world premiere in April to catch a glimpse of the film. Karthik Chidambaram, who co-produced the film said, “Critical acclaim from an international body could give us a good opening back home. We will wait until after the world premiere to release the film in India.”

Arun is very likely to emerge as a director to watch out for, based on the list of previous recipients of the Remi Award, which include George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, the Coen Brothers and Ang Lee.

The film also bagged the Special Jury Award at the National Science Festival.

Apart from the film itself, the song Kalla Manna will be screened at the “Bare Bones International and Music Festival” at Oklahoma, USA.

The song chronicles 51 traditional games that are played in rural India. The director had given up a promising career in a MNC in the United States to follow his passion for filmmaking. His expertise in filmmaking is largely self-taught.

WorldFest Houston International Film Festival will be conducted from April 8 to 17.
