CHENNAI: A 42-year-old security guard was arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a Class 12 student at her home in KK Nagar. The man had assaulted the child two months ago and escaped, but was caught this time, as the girl’s mother was at home at the time of the incident.

Two months ago, when the girl was alone at home, the accused came there pretending to be her parents’ acquaintance and tried to assault her. When the girl raised an alarm, the man fled the spot. When her mother returned from work, the child told her about the incident and the family secured and preserved footage from a nearby CCTV camera that captured the suspect.

On Monday, while the girl's mother was at home, she spotted the same man entering their house again. She immediately raised an alarm, alerting neighbours who rushed to her aid. They caught the intruder and handied him over to the KK Nagar police station. He was later transferred to the Vadapalani police station for further investigation.

The man was identified as Ganesan (42), a security guard living with family, including two daughters, in Saligramam. Officials said he was earlier arrested under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
