CHENNAI: A 42-year-old private security guard has been arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a Plus2 student at her home in KK Nagar here.
The incident first occurred approximately two months ago. The student was alone at home when the accused, identifying himself as an acquaintance of her parents, entered the premises.
He grabbed her hand and attempted to assault her. The girl raised an alarm, prompting the man to flee. She reported the incident to her mother upon her return from work.
The family subsequently secured and preserved relevant CCTV footage from a nearby camera that captured the suspect.
The case took a decisive turn on Monday while the girl's mother was at home, she spotted the same man, from the CCTV recordings, entering their house again.
The mother immediately raised an alarm, alerting neighbours who rushed to her aid.
They managed to subdue and apprehend the intruder before handing him over to the KK Nagar police station. He was later transferred to the Vadapalani police station for further investigation.
The accused has been identified as Ganesan (42), a resident of Saligramam. Police disclosed that he is employed with a private security company and is a father of two daughters.
Legal action has been initiated under two stringent sections of BNS.
Police said Ganesan has a prior arrest record under the women's harassment act, indicating a previous offense of a similar nature.
