Chennai Metro Rail records 92 lakh ridership in November

CHENNAI: For the fifth consecutive month, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited has facilitated over 90 lakh riders. In November, the Metro Rail recorded over 92 lakh footfall.

The single-day highest footfall was recorded on November 10, with 3.60 lakh people opting for the service. The total ridership for the month was tallied at 92.86 lakh.

The average daily ridership over the last five months is gradually inching up to 3.50 lakh. In June, the footfall stood at 92.19 lakh and breached the 1 crore count in July. The Metro service witnessed 99 lakh riders in August, and again, saw 1.01 crore commuters in September. In October, the total ridership was 93.27 lakh.

The CMRL, in a statement, listed that 48.48 lakh passengers used the Singara Chennai card, followed by 18.47 lakh riders using the QR token.

The online mode of ticketing is also picking up pace, with many opting for alternative booking services due to the 20 per cent discount on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and digital service.
