Chennai: Man dies after neighbour’s assault, relatives protest

CHENNAI: A 40-year-old man has died in a Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital days after being assaulted, sparking protests from relatives demanding the arrest of the woman responsible.

The deceased, Shankar (also known as Sivakumar), was a resident of the KP Park area near Basin Bridge. On December 29, he was allegedly attacked with a wooden stick by a woman named Kavya, a neighbour. Following the assault, he lost consciousness and was taken to RGGGH.

While initial examinations showed no head injuries, a scan later revealed severe internal damage, including a skull fracture. Despite surgery and treatment, Sivakumar died on Thursday. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death.
