Chennai: Gold price surges by Rs 320 on April 16; check how much it costs

CHENNAI: A day after a rise of Rs 800 per sovereign (8 grams), gold has now increased by Rs 320 on April 16.

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,14,880 per sovereign and 14,360 per gram, an increase of Rs 40.

On April 15, gold was priced at Rs 1,14,560 per sovereign and Rs 14,320 per gram.

Silver prices remain unchanged

Silver prices remained unchanged to sell for Rs 275 per gram (Rs 2,75,000 per kg) on April 16.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 70,520 per sovereign (Rs 8,815 per gram) on April 16, 2025, to Rs 1,14,880 per sovereign (Rs 14,360 per gram) on April 16, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 44,360 or about 62.9%.
