Chennai: Gold price rises on May 2, 2026; check how much it costs today

CHENNAI: Gold saw an increase of Rs 640 per sovereign (8 grams) on May 2 (Saturday).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,12,000 per sovereign and Rs 14,000 per gram, an increase of Rs 80.

On May 1 evening, gold closed at Rs 1,11,360 per sovereign and Rs 13,920 per gram.

Silver prices increased

Silver prices increased by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 270 per gram (Rs 2,70,000 per kg) on May 2. On May 1, it was priced at Rs 265 per gram.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 70,040 per sovereign (Rs 8,755 per gram) on May 2, 2025, to Rs 1,12,000 per sovereign (Rs 14,000 per gram) on May 2, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 41,960 or about 59.90%.
