Chennai gold price plunges by Rs 1,840, silver costs Rs 270 per gram on May 6, 2026

CHENNAI: Gold rate plunged in the city on Wednesday (May 6) by Rs 1,840 per sovereign (8 grams).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,12,400 per sovereign and Rs 14,050 per gram, after an increase of Rs 230.

On May 5, gold cost Rs 1,10,560 per sovereign and 13,820 per gram.

Silver prices increase

Silver prices increased by Rs 5 to sell for Rs 270 per gram (Rs 2,70,000 per kg) on May 6. On May 5, silver was sold at Rs 265 per gram (Rs 2,65,000 per kg).

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 72,200 per sovereign (Rs 9,025 per gram) on May 6, 2025, to Rs 1,12,400 per sovereign (Rs 14,050 per gram) on May 6, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 40,200 or about 55.678%.
