CHENNAI: City Police on Saturday arrested a 59-year-old man for the alleged sexual abuse of his daughter for eight years. The man’s wife and his elder brother too were arrested by the police as they failed to report the sexual abuse to the authorities, despite knowing it.

The victim, who is now a college student, filed a complaint with the city police that her father had sexually abused her since she was 12 years old.

The girl had reported father’s overtures to her mother and her paternal uncle, her father’s elder brother, but all of them convinced her to keep it to herself, police investigations revealed.

Recently, the girl opened up about her abuse to some of her friends, who suggested her to file a police complaint.

On September 7, she lodged a complaint with an all women police station in Chennai. After investigations, police arrested her father, mother and uncle, booking them under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. All three were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
