Chennai Engineer’s death: MACT orders Rs 1.66 crore compensation

After hearing the petition, A.Nazir Ahamed, Chief Judge, Court of Small Causes, ordered TATA AIG General Insurance Company to pay a compensation of Rs 1.66 crore to the family of the deceased Vasanthakumar.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has directed the payment of compensation of Rs 1.66 crore to the family of an electrical engineer who died after being hit by an autorickshaw.

R. Vasanthakumar (37), a senior engineer in the electrical division of Ford Motors, a resident of Kattankulathur in Chennai, was travelling on a two-wheeler near the Vandalur New Flyover in Sholinganallur on December 24, 2023, when an autorickshaw hit him, causing serious injuries.

He was admitted to a private hospital, where he later died despite treatment.

Seeking compensation for her husband's death, his wife S Dheepiga filed a petition before the Chennai Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.
