CHENNAI: Police have arrested two youths, including a delivery agent with an online shopping platform, for stealing expensive smartphones and laptops from customers’ packages and replacing them with stones.

Arumbakkam cops registered a case based on a complaint they received two months ago from Narayanan (38), a local manager of the warehouse. The complainant said that they had received complaints from customers who found stones in the packages instead of expensive gadgets they ordered.

So, the company filed a police complaint. Police zeroed in on one of the delivery agents, Dinesh (20) of Otteri. Investigations revealed that Dinesh took advantage of a customer’s absence in their home. When taking the parcel back to the warehouse, he replaced the gadgets with stones.

The other agent would eventually deliver the parcel without knowing about the contents of the package.

Dinesh sold the phones and laptops at cheap rates with the help of his accomplice, Ajith (25) of Ayanavaram. Police recovered 13 gadgets from them.
