CHENNAI: The Chief Minister, MK Stalin, on Monday inaugurated new police stations and residential quarters for police personnel across the State through video conferencing.

As for Greater Chennai Police, the women police hostel at Chintadripet and a police canteen at Krishnagiri, a police camp at Muthupet, Thiruvaur district, at a total cost of Rs 22.08 crore, were inaugurated, a release said.

He also inaugurated nine new police stations, three subdivisions across the State, staff quarters and a fire station at Redhills, the statement added. Stalin further opened the waiting hall constructed at Chennai Central Prison.

In a statement, the government said under the Ungal Sontha Illam scheme, 253 residential flats had been inaugurated. So far, 56 police buildings and 3,418 residential facilities have been opened for police personnel, it added.

Ministers S Regupathy, SS Sivasankar, and Chief Secretary N Muruganandam were present at the meeting.
