CHENNAI: Several interior roads at VGN Shanthi Nagar in Ambattur have remained without a proper road surface for nearly a year. The stretches are uneven and largely unpaved, making it hard to commute.

Residents of Anusha Street said the condition of the road has steadily worsened over the months, making everyday movement along the stretch difficult.

Dust remains a persistent issue, particularly during dry weather, and residents say the problem has continued without any interim measures being taken.

"There is no road here in the real sense. We have been managing like this for months, without knowing when it will be fixed, " said a resident of Anusha Street.

Similar conditions prevail on Bharathiyar Street and other internal roads in the locality. "Basic road facility is not given to residents living in Chennai. The roads are highly dangerous for people like us during the rains," said Narasimman, a 62-year-old resident.

Speaking to DT Next, ward councillor M Kamal said the road works were halted following instructions not to dig roads for three months owing to the monsoon. He said drainage works would have to be completed before the road could be relaid.

"Drainage work needs to be taken up first. Once that is completed, the road work will be carried out soon," he said.
