CHENNAI: Despite a Supreme Court order regarding the removal of stray dogs from public spaces passed in November, nothing has changed on a larger level to date. In Tiruvallur railway station, the passengers have been facing a major inconvenience due to the stray dog menace.

There is a severe problem of stray dogs on the foot-over-bridge. The dogs are lying and sleeping on the bridge, and the dogs suddenly try to bite the passengers who walk through the bridge
Saravanan, a Tiruvallur resident

"This creates fear and anxiety among the public, especially for women, children, and elderly passengers. Crossing the foot-over-bridge safely has become a difficult task. I kindly request the railway authorities to take immediate action to remove the stray dogs from the foot-over-bridge and ensure passenger safety," Saravanan added.

"There are several dogs which keep wandering on the station premises," said K Baskar, the secretary of Tiruvallur Railway Passengers Association.

DT Next has recently reported a similar stray dog issue in Chennai Central Station.

When contacted, a railway official said, "In the case of Chennai Central Station, in coordination with the Chennai Corporation, measures have been initiated to solve the stray dog issues. Similarly, in Tiruvallur municipality the instructions were given by the railways to the officials. If the issue persists, we will take necessary steps to ensure the safety of passengers."
