CHENNAI: Three members of a family, including a businessman, his wife and their son, who allegedly attempted suicide, were rescued on Monday. They are undergoing treatment in a critical condition at a private hospital.

Police said that T Subramanian (61), a car parts manufacturer, lived with his wife, Rajeshwari (59). Their son, Deivanayagam (32), was studying abroad and was home on vacation.

When Subramanian's office accountant, Shankar, tried to contact him on Monday morning, the calls went unanswered. When Shankar went to Subramanian's residence, he found all three lying in pools of blood, with injuries to their necks and right wrists.

A probe by MGR Nagar police rushed to the house and moved them to a hospital. Preliminary inquiries have suggested that a financial crisis triggered the decision.
