Hoax bomb threat mails received at Chennai airport, mail originated from fake ID of senior police officer

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed in Chennai airport after two hoax bomb threat emails were received by a private airline and two media houses in the wee hours of Sunday.

On Sunday around 1.30 am the first mail was sent to all three offices and it was mentioned that the bomb would explode in Chennai airport within a week.

The sender mentioned that many innocent public are being harmed by the officials in the name checking for smuggling and they are being harassed. So we have decided to plant explode the Chennai airport."

Again the same mail was forwarded at 9 am. Airport sources also said that the fake email ID was created in the name of a senior state police official.

Soon the Chennai airport director held a emergency security meeting in the Chennai airport and all the places were checked thoroughly by the bomb squad and security was also tightened in the airport.

Meanwhile, the airport police and the CISF were also alerted on Sunday evening.

Although the police confirmed that it was a hoax bomb threat, security is being tightened in the airport since it was mentioned that the blast would be held anytime in the week.

The police have also registered a case and are trying to identify who are the people behind the hoax bomb threat.
