Chennai: 9-yr-old, Class 11 student among 5 killed in separate accidents

CHENNAI: A nine-year-old and a Class 11 student were among the four people killed in separate accidents in Mambalam, Vandalur and Sriperumbur on Saturday and Sunday.


Prathiksha (9), who was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her father, Selvakumar, was killed after a truck trailing them knocked the bike down near Koyambedu on Poonamallee High Road. The girl fell off the bike, and the truck ran over her legs. Both were rushed to a hospital, where Prathiksha was declared dead. The Koyambedu TIW (Traffic Investigation Wing) personnel have registered a case and are investigating.

In another incident on Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, three teenagers, Ranjith (16), Vetrivel and Sarvesh, riding a bike, met with an accident.

Ranjith, a student of a government school in Peerkankaranai, died on impact. Probe revealed a rashly driven car caused the accident.  The Guduvanchery TIW have registered a case against the car driver, Vasanthakumar (35) of Thalambur.

In another accident in West Mambalam, a 92-year-old ex-serviceman was killed in a case of suspected hit and run after a rashly driven two-wheeler hit him when the elderly man was walking along Veerasamy Street in the locality on Saturday. The police have registered a case and launched a search for the motorist.
