TIRUVALLUR: Burglars broke into a temple at Tiruvallur and made away with ornaments worn by the deity on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning when Rathnam, the priest who works at Selliamman Temple in Vengathur village arrived to open the temple, he noticed that the locks were broken. He immediately alerted the temple staff Haribabu, who found that some of the gold accessories worn by the deity had been stolen.

“Small ornaments worth a few thousands were stolen during the break in,” police said.

Manavalan Nagar police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the thieves. It may be noted that similar break-ins have taken place twice at the temple in the recent past.
