CHENNAI: Gold prices surged in the city on Friday (April 3) by Rs 800 per sovereign (8 grams).
The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,10,800 per sovereign and Rs 13,850 per gram, after a rise of Rs 100.
On April 2, gold fell by Rs 2,400 per sovereign, selling for Rs 1,10,000 (Rs 12,750 per gram).
Silver prices remain stable, continue selling for Rs 255 (Rs 2,55,000 per kg) on April 3.
Gold continues to remain significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have risen from Rs 68,480 per sovereign (Rs 8,560 per gram) on April 3, 2025, to Rs 1,10,800 per sovereign (Rs 13,850 per gram) on April 3, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 42,320 or about 61.7%.
