Of these, 61 units will be deployed in Greater Chennai Corporation, 10 at Chengalpattu and five each at Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.

“The mobile medical units will operate at fever camps in slum areas, containment areas, and other vulnerable spots. Those identified with symptoms by the door-to-door survey will be referred to the fever camps. The doctors there would test them and recommend further testing if they suspect COVID-19 infection. This can reduce the mortality rate in the State. These vehicles can also be used to shift patients,” said Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar after flagging off the mobile units at Omandurar Government Multi-Specialty Hospital.

“People in home isolation needing any medical services can contact the control room, and the mobile medical teams will reach immediately. We are glad that the medical teams volunteered themselves from various districts in Tamil Nadu. They have already worked during Chennai floods,” said Vijaya Baskar.

Already 726 officials including health inspectors, nurses and medical researchers are undertaking preventive measures at containment areas within the corporation.
