8 held for trying to hurl petrol bomb at Gurumurthy’s house

The city police said on Monday that they have arrested eight persons for allegedly attempting to hurl petrol bombs at the house of S Gurumurthy, editor of Thuglak magazine, early on Sunday morning. The officials said that the arrested persons were cadres of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam.

The accused were identified as M Sasikumar (33) and R Deepan (32) from Mylapore; M Balu (30), P Prasanth (23), and K Vasudevan (32) from Royapettah; V Janarthanan (36) from Ayanavaram, S Thamizh (23) from Pammal; and E Sakthi (22) from Tiruvallur. Sasikumar is already facing two cases of hurling petrol bombs.

The men had reached Gurumurthy’s house in Varadharajapuram in Mylapore during the wee hours on Sunday carrying some object in a bag. The security guards, who were woken up by dogs barking, questioned one of the men, who ran away. 

When a policeman guarding the house noticed them and started approaching them, they sped away.

Based on footage caught on CCTV, the police managed to nab eight persons involved in the incident.
